Statistical binary patterns for rotational invariant texture classification

چکیده
A new texture representation framework called statistical binary patterns (SBP) is presented. It consists in applying rotation invariant local binary pattern operators (LBP) to a series of moment images, defined by local statistics uniformly computed using a given spatial support. It can be seen as a generalisation of the commonly used complementation approach (CLBP), since it extends the local description not only to local contrast information, but to higher order local variations. In short, SBPs aim at expanding LBP self-similarity operator from the local gray level to the regional distribution level. Thanks to a richer local description, the SBPs have better discrimination power than other LBP variants. Furthermore, thanks to the regularisation effect of the statistical moments, the SBP descriptors show better noise robustness than classical CLBPs. The interest of the approach is validated through a large experimental study performed on five ∗Corresponding author Email address: [email protected] (Thanh Phuong Nguyen) Preprint submitted to Neurocomputing September 17, 2015 texture databases: KTH-TIPS, KTH-TIPS 2b, CUReT, UIUC and DTD. The results show that, for the four first datasets, the SBPs are comparable or outperform the recent state-of-the-art methods, even using small support for the LBP operator, and using limited size spatial support for the computation of the local statistics.

Rotational Invariant Uniform Local Binary Patterns for Full 3d Volume Texture Analysis
In this paper, we present a novel method for the fast computation of rotational invariant ”uniform local binary patterns” (uLBP) for texture analysis on 3D volume data. We introduce an alternative computation method for uLBPs in frequency space, which allows to effectively approximate uniform patterns in 2D and 3D in order to avoid the enormous computational complexity of a ”naive” 3D LBP imple...
متن کاملExtended Local Binary Pattern Features for Improving Settlement Type Classification of QuickBird Images
Despite the fact that image texture features extracted from high-resolution remotely sensed images over urban areas have demonstrated their ability to distinguish different classes, they are still far from being ideal. Multiresolution grayscale and rotation invariant texture classification with Local Binary Patterns (LBPs) have proven to be a very powerful texture feature. In this paper we perf...
متن کاملA Novel Approach to Texture Classification using NSCT and LDBP
Texture is an important image feature and is defined as something consisting of mutually related elements. Texture based classification is an important approach for effective object recognition in digital images. This paper presents an efficient approach for texture classification based on local directional binary patterns (LDBP) and nonsubsampled contourlet transform (NSCT). The NSCT has trans...

In many image processing applications, such as segmentation and classification, the selection of robust features descriptors is crucial to improve the discrimination capabilities in real world scenarios. In particular, it is well known that image textures constitute power visual cues for feature extraction and classification. In the past few years the local binary pattern (LBP) approach, a text...
متن کاملMandibular Trabecular Bone Analysis Using Local Binary Pattern for Osteoporosis Diagnosis
Background: Osteoporosis is a systemic skeletal disease characterized by low bone mineral density (BMD) and micro-architectural deterioration of bone tissue, leading to bone fragility and increased fracture risk. Since Panoramic image is a feasible and relatively routine imaging technique in dentistry; it could provide an opportunistic chance for screening osteoporosis. In this regard, numerous...
